Opening Night
A deep fog soaked into every crevasse of Los Angeles this cool spring night. Traffic had been so bad we missed the show we were going to see, but all was not lost - we made it just in time for the after party. There is nothing like LA traffic. Even at nine at night.
My hope for the evening was to see a certain white haired comedian. Alas, so had quite a few people, because he was jetting out in his black car as we pulled up. But we did see him. Just a brush of celebrity for the night. I would have been content with that.
We got inside the party - which, technically we gate crashed, since we had not seen the accompanying show, but I digress - and I nearly ran over Anne Hathaway, who kept looking at me as if she was desperate to not be recognized. Fortunately, I hadn't at that point. It was only later that I realized who I almost knocked over.
After meeting up with Jody (who is going to get us tickets to another day of the show - small victories), we go to get a cranberry and Sprite for my very pregnant wife. As I stand at the bar I see (in no particular order) - the mother from Everybody Loves Raymond, the mother from Poltergeist (a theme perhaps of motherhood), and Mr. Pitt from Seinfeld (so much for that pattern). Then I spot Dr. Johnny Fever, who normally I would have flipped over, but this is the third time I've seen him at one of these opening parties, so he and I are old hat now.
The evening wound down early-ish, and we had an uneventful, albeit incredibly foggy (thank goodness for fog lights) drive home.
Between tonight and Smallville night (Annette O'Toole, Tom (Clark) Welling, Michael McKean, Sam (Pete) Jones III, I have had more celebrity sightings than anyone should have. Unless, they are themselves a celebrity.
One last thing - I saw this on Yahoo News:
WASHINGTON (AFP) - NASA (news - web sites) has developed a computer program that comes close to reading thoughts not yet spoken, by analyzing nerve commands to the throat.
I am officially very afraid.
